Different Paths

Ricky and Tre are together running from the crew trying to blast them when Ricky decides they should split up. One choice to head in opposite directions is the difference between life and death. We see Ricky playing a scratch off ticket and it shows us that making a choice like he just did is like playing the lottery when someone's out to murder and the imagery reveals all of this to us in this life-changing scene.

Gather Around

Furious Styles stands on a vacant lot in the neighborhood where he's explaining to Ricky and Tre about gentrification. We then see older and younger men from across the street gather to listen to Styles. The imagery shows us that knowledge can bring people to the precipice of truth, from there one must choose to think and make decisions for themselves that are beyond self, but for the betterment of the entire community.

Intervene

Styles comes home to find Tre covered in Ricky's blood and with a pistol in his hand. He convinces his son to give him the gun which stops him from continuing the violence, and potentially stops him from being killed himself. The imagery is that a father stands in the way of his son's demise simply by being where he's supposed to be when he's supposed to be there. In the home is where Styles stops his son from killing, not on the streets. This imagery reveals that to us.

Covered

Doughboy gets out of his car after a drive-by so he can finish off two of the three guys they've shot. He demands the last living man roll over and he shoots him twice. We see blood splattered all over his face and the imagery shows Doughboy is a man who's become numb to who the culprit is and simply is acting out this violence in a sense of rage which has covered the true Darren with blood. This imagery is a stark reality of life in the hood, and the price that Darren is paying for the murders.
