Bridge to Terabithia is a book turned movie adaptation of the book by Katherine Paterson under the same name. It is directed by Gábor Csupó and was written by David L. Paterson and Jeff Stockwell. David L. Paterson is both the producer and screenplay writer of the movie, which author Katherine Paterson let him do, because he is her son and the book was loosely based on events that happened in his life. The movie was first released early in 2007 and was a great hit.
In terms of the events it describes, Bridge to Terabithia is a story of friendship and imagination. It follows a pair of young children, Jess and Leslie. They become neighbors early on in the movie and initially doesn’t have any bonds, but as they spend more time together, they get closer and closer. Leslie has the life Jess didn’t know he wanted, but despite their differences, they become best friends and create the land of Terabithia together, where Jess is King, and Leslie is Queen.
The movie had both a good reception and won many awards. It has very high scores from the most mainstream reviewing websites such as Rotten Tomatoes, where it had a percentage of 85. Personal reviews also have all-over positive reviews, as it was even described as “the best family feature of the early year” according to James Berardinelli published in ReelViews. Five of the seven awards the movie was nominated for was won, which included three Young Artist Awards in 2008.
