The ongoing activity for journal entries should be used as students read the story from beginning to end. They can also be used as prompts for discussion or debate in the classroom, and as a way to develop activities based on students own observations.
The Map Activity, begun in Day 2, can be used to help visual thinkers become more engaged in class discussions. These maps can serve as a foundation for the remainder of the reading by providing a tangible place for students to take notes, create visual aids or think about plot-line.
Consider merging both ongoing activities above, having students integrate their journals with or on the map.
