June Iparis
One of the novel’s two main characters. She grew up in the Republic within elite circles and throughout this book is working in the Republic as the Princeps-Elect, using her advanced military and espionage skills. She’s very smart and knows how to navigate political systems well, but is weighted down emotionally by her breakup with Day.
Day
Day is a former criminal who now works within the Republic’s military, utilizing his intelligence and skill that’s equal to June’s. He’s passionate about equality, having grown up in poverty. Throughout Champion he’s dying of disease, and spends most of the book drawing away from his personal relationships to protect his loved ones from being hurt. Though he eventually survives, he loses many of his memories.
Anden
Anden is the leader of the Republic, and took over from his father after his death at the end of Legend. He’s a much fairer leader than his father was and is dedicated to making a better world for the Republic. He’s in love with June, but respects the fact that she doesn’t feel the same.
Tess
Tess is Day’s friend and former co-thief, who worked for the resistance movement in Prodigy. She and Day have a strained relationship due to her unrequited crush on Day, but they eventually work things out. Like Day, she holds a lot of anger based on her past, and wants to fight for a better world.
Eden
Eden is Day’s younger brother. He looks up to his older brother and is desperate to be involved in the action of the Republic, even though he’s only nine. He gets sick with the plague that spreads through the Republic, but he survives.
Commander Jameson
Commander Jameson worked for Anden’s father, and following his death staged an assassination attempt on Anden, constantly working to undermine efforts at a fairer country. She’s eventually killed.
Thomas
Thomas is a soldier in the Republic who was also good friends with June’s brother, Metias. However, Thomas went on to kill him, because he was found to be working to undermine Anden’s father and Commander Jameson. We learn in this book that he was in love with Metias.
Pascao
Pascao is a soldier in the Republic who leads several missions. He and Day work together often.
