Dark past and bright future

Some people leave their countries to build a better life, for they believe in an idea of the bright future that awaits those who are brave, smart, and hard-working enough to fight for it. Other people leave their countries because they don’t have any other choice. The protagonist of this story belongs to the second category. He has left his family and home not because he looks for something better but out of necessity. The man doesn’t hope for the brighter future for his past is too dark to restart his life from scratch.

Evil and good

How would one characterize the protagonist? Is he evil or is he good? There is no answer to that question, for he is both. This man is not an angel, he is capable of committing crime, abusing law, and using people for his own selfish benefits. However, the protagonist can be both understanding and caring when he wants. His story is supposed to show that we don’t live in a black/white world. The most important thing is to maintain balance and try to be a better person. Of course, the protagonist fails rather often, but he tries. The mere fact that he doesn’t have enough courage to kill his brother-in-lobe proves that he is not as evil as he likes to think.

Addiction

Every time people talk about addiction they think about drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, these issues are too pressing to be ignored. However, it is not necessary to be dependent on drugs to be considered an addict. For instance, Shohreh is addicted to an idea of revenge. She is so obsessed with a need for killing her abuser that she is ready to sacrifice her new life in the new country where she has started a life so different from the one she used to have. But the past still haunts her, preventing her from achieving happiness. She is as much addicted as Reza.
