Amans
The main character in the poem, also known as the 'Lover'. He is in despair as he is dying from love. He seeks help to rid him of this feeling from Cupid and Venus.
Cupid
Involved in match-making and creating love, Cupid desires to help Amans heal himself and find love.
Venus
A Goddess of desire, beauty and prosperity, Venus also seeks to heal Amans's sorrow. She uses her knowledge to deduce that the only way to heal himself is to take him to Genius to rid himself of his sins.
Genius
A chaplain, who helps rid Amans of his infatuation with love, by working through the seven deadly sins he has committed and using them to explain the concept of love.
