Couple in the Cage: Two Undiscovered Amerindians Visit the West Characters

Couple in the Cage: Two Undiscovered Amerindians Visit the West Character List

Coco Fusco

As a performer in the exhibit, Fusco's goal is to remain anonymous in the grander context of her message. She is playing an absurd role in order to bring attention to the outrageous treatment of indigenous peoples throughout history. Abandoning dignity, Fusco lives in this cage during exhibits, only leaving when led on a leash by staff members to a private facility. Her identity is irrelevant to the exhibit, so she remains silent. Fusco is dressed in a grass skirt, a leopard-skin bikini top, sunglasses, a luchador cheetah mask, Converse, and various face paints and jewelery.

Guillermo Gomez-Pena

Gomez-Pena is the second performer of the exhibit. Co-creator of the project, he also co-stars in the exhibit. Remaining silent in keeping with the message of the exhibit, he occasionally delivers speeches in an imaginary language in exchange for tips. He wears a luchador mask, banda boots, a wig, and a great deal of face paint and jewelery. He's supposed to be an absurd addition to an already absurd stage.
