Heroism and Rescue

Bond is the classic hero of his own story. His mission is to rescue a fellow agent stationed in Jamaica who has gone missing. While Bond is unable to save Commander Strangways from being murdered by Dr. No, he does all that he can to bring him home. He's given a second chance to be the brave rescuer, however, when he encounters Honey. Honey needs an emotional rescuer, to take her under their wing and tell her that she's valuable. Not the most sensitive in relationships, Bond does manage to make Honey feel safe. In the moment, he is able to rescue both her and himself from Dr. No's stronghold.

Power

Dr. No is obsessed with power. Because he has some physical deformities and health problems related to his heart, he feels less capable and somewhat helpless. He's overcompensating for these physical setbacks by using his money and genius to align himself with powerful people for the forces of evil. The British government made him feel inferior before his days as a genius villain, so he is willing to do anything to humiliate them, including working with the soviet government on world domination plans. No needs power in whatever form he can take it, which, combined with his sociopathic tendencies, makes him a man to be feared.

Technology

In contrast to the simple lives of the Jamaican locals, both Dr. No and Bond bring with them some very advanced technology. Dr. No has set up his laboratory facility on a remote end of the island. Cleverly he repurposed an old piece of machinery and set it up on an all-terrain vehicle which defends the outside of his buildings, so the natives don't become to curious. Because the natives have no concept for electronics and advanced mechanics, they think that this watchdog is an actual dragon because of the fire it sprays. While Bond doesn't have any dragons or laboratories, he does possess technology at which the Jamaicans marvel. For one, he owns a gun. The locals travel by boat and fight with knives. Bond's iconoclastic suits and weapons cause them to admire and fear him.
