Objective:

To discuss details in the text that show what it was like to endure such a harsh journey at that time and to follow the route Esperanza and the others take to their new home.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.6.2

Structure:

Introduce the topic by having the students guess the distance between Aguascalientes, Mexico and the San Joaquin Valley in California. Have them discuss how long it might take to travel between the two places using modern transportation. Then have them bring up Google Maps to see how close they came.
