Prince Henry
He is the only son of the King and Queen who resists his royal obligations as he desires to be free in the world. His father tells him he must be married in order to secure his throne. In the midst of this he meets Danielle who he believes is a Countess and pursues her until he discovers she is a servant. With the help of Leonardo da Vinci he finds that his love for her is greater than any boundary of class that would keep them apart.
Rodmilla
Rodmilla is the evil step-mother who turns Danielle into a servant after the young girl's father dies unexpectedly. She is ambitious and desires for her oldest daughter Marguerite to wed Prince Henry in order that she might become royalty herself. But her lies and deceit are the very things that not only reveal her motives but have also her stripped of her noble status.
Marguerite
Marguerite is the eldest of Danielle's stepsisters. She is hot tempered and loses her emotions very quickly. All she desires is to one day be the Queen of France and follows her mother in deceiving the King, Queen and Prince in order to win the crown. Once her and her mother's lies are exposed her noble status is stripped and she is forced to become a servant.
Jacqueline
Jacqueline is the youngest of Danielle's stepsisters and the most sympathetic to her. She does not fit in with her mother nor sister who constantly bash her with their words and dismiss her in nearly all situations. By being treated in such a foul manner by her family she side with Danielle and helps the Prince to find her and marry her. She finds love with one of Prince Henry's men and keeps her noble status while her mother and sister are stripped of theirs.
