Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone Background

The title of Benjamin Stevenson's Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, which was published in early 2023, is bound to attract attention. Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone is a mystery novel borrowed from the works of Agatha Christie, Rian Johnson's Knives Out films, and other novels in the murder mystery genre. Stevenson's novel tells the story of a man named Ernie Cunningham, who travels to a mountain retreat that has been covered in snow for a family reunion. There, Ernie reconnects with his family, some of whom he likes and others who he doesn't like. But when people start to die at the resort, Ernie is forced to investigate who committed the gruesome murders and stop them from continuing to commit murders in the future.

Critics and audiences alike mostly enjoyed Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone. Some critics liked the novel; others felt more mixed about the novel. Beejay Silcox of The Guardian called the novel "excruciatingly self-referential." Kirkus Reviews said in their review of Stevenson's story that "This book and its author are cleverer than you and want you to know it." Publisher's Weekly felt more warmly about Stevenson's novel. In their review, they wrote that "Stevenson carries off this tour de force with all the aplomb of a master magician who conducts his tricks in plain view. This [novel] is perfect for Peter Lovesey fans."
