Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is Hunter S. Thompson's most well known and celebrated book. That said, he was a prolific writer who often focused on the darker underbelly of American culture. Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs was Thompson's first nonfiction book; it was praised for its uncompromising and intimate look at the feared Hell's Angels motorcycle club. The Rum Diary was Thompson's second novel, focusing on a journalist dealing with age and alcoholism.
