Fellowship Point, which was published in 2022, tells the story of two women who have forged a lifelong friendship. Together, they have spent nearly eighty summers together on the coast of Maine. And though they are similar in many ways, they are different in many other significant ways. One of the women, named Agnes Lee, is a writer who knows that her final trip to Maine will be her final.
As a result, she works hard to complete what will become the final volume of Franklin Square novels. But as Agnes starts preparing for the end of her life, she must deal with a trust that she owns which controls a vast amount of land. Agnes wants to sell; her aforementioned friend, named Peggy, is one of the shareholders of the land. This leads to conflict between the two and threatens their nearly 80-year-long friendship.
Alice Elliot Dark is one of the most celebrated authors of the past century. Her novels and short story collections have received universally positive reviews and Fellowship Point is no exception. Kirkus Reviews said in their review of the novel that it is "Elegantly structured, beautifully written, and altogether diverting, with a powerful message about land ownership in America." Finally, The Boston Globe called the novel “A magnificent storytelling feat" in their glowing review of Dark's novel.
