Amanda
Amanda is the main character of the novella. It begins with her lying in a bed, presumably in a hospital, living out her last days, while a boy called David whispers into her ear. Amanda is a mother to a girl called Nina, and she developed a concept of rescue distance, paranoid to be able to protect her child in any situation.
David
David is the most confusing character of the novella. He is at times a regular boy and other times a menacing force. The young boy David gets poisoned and his mother, desperate to save him, takes him to a woman living in the green house, to save him. The woman performs a transmigration of the soul, which means that the soul of the boy David migrates to another body, while his body is entered by a strange entity.
Carla
Carla is David's mother. She enters the plot as Amanda is remembering fractions of their dialogues and the moment Carla revealed to her what happened to David. Carla reveals her fear and disdain for David who isn't David.
Nina
Nina is Amanda's daughter, and Amanda is desperate to protect her at all costs, certain that something bad is just waiting to happen. Something bad does happen when Nina gets in contact with David.
