The narrator

The narrator said these words when he offered the older adult a helping hand to rescue his drowning son. The old peasant man was doing everything possible to save his son and the fast drowning lamb. However, the narrator realized that the old man was taking a more dangerous route into the cliff, and he offered to help. Consequently, the narrator asked the old man to stay put as he calculated the best way to rescue the son from the danger of drowning in the lake.

Narrator

The narrator is reflecting on his life and how people judge him. He realizes that most people around him treat him unfairly and unkindly. However, he realizes that they are all wrong because of their false perception. He knows that he is the right person, and people cannot assume that he is the wrong person who deserves to be treated unfairly. Besides him, it is his old dog who always treats him with love and passion. He hopes that one day people will treat him exactly as his dog does without any discrimination.

“My son! My William!”

The peasant

These words are said the peasant or the old man who was shocked when he realized that William was about to drown. The peasant is ready to sacrifice his life and dive into the precipice to save his son because he cannot stand and watch helplessly. The narrator hears the old man screaming for help and ready to jump into the lake to help his son. The narrator asks the old man to stay put because he can help in rescuing his son.
