Why did Victor leave the hotel and hurry back to Geneva?

Victor is feeling overwhelmed, Victor tells guests that there is a monster and they search.The grief overwhelms Victor and he falls down "in a state of utter exhaustion." He vows to return to Geneva to protect his remaining family.
