With its focus on revenge and the corrosive influence of power, and its inclusion of supernatural elements, Hamlet most closely resembles Macbeth, Julius Caesar, and The Tempest among Shakespeare's works. Shakespeare also touches upon the subject of revenge in Othello and Titus Andronicus, and the theme of madness is central to King Lear. The inclusion of a ghostly visitation in a common Shakespearean device; along with Macbeth and Julius Caesar, it is also featured prominently in Cymbeline and Richard III.
