Heroes and Saints includes environmental racism, classism, sex, adult language, homophobia, and the brief mention of drugs. Teachers should plan to contextualize sensitive, mature, and disturbing topics to mentally prepare students for what they are about to embark on in reading the play. It may also be helpful to provide some social context regarding the realities brown Latinx immigrants can face in the United States, particularly related to environmental racism.
