Women in Ancient Greece

To learn about the role of women in Greek society and how the issues they faced are reflected in the play.

Structure:
Euripides gave prominent roles to strong female characters in his plays, and of all the Tragedians was the most interested in the Greek ideals of female behavior (and the transgression of those ideals). In order to fully appreciate his Hippolytus, it is important that students understand the role of women in ancient Greek society.
