Why was Lily invited on the trip with the Dorsets in the first place? What role did she play during those three months? What does she realize about herself in the end?
Lily was invited along to distract George Dorset while Bertha had an affair with Ned Silverton. In the end, she realizes that she knew all along why she was invited, and is shocked at how easily she tricked herself into thinking she did not know this going into the trip. She further realizes that she has no way to defend herself against Bertha's accusations, in part because of how complicit she was in the whole drama.
