Book Review
Kind of Activity:
Individual Writing
Objective:
Students will write a review of How to Read Literature Like a Professor and compare their reviews to published reviews.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.11-12.4
Structure:
1. Have students write a 1-page review of the book, noting its strengths and weaknesses. The review should provide an argument for whether or not the book should be used as a text for high school literature classes, using specific evidence and support from the book.
2. After they have written their own reviews, have students find two or three reviews of the book that either you provide or they find online....
