    Students will consider other characters’ perspectives on Daddy Bailey and Mother’s decision to send Maya and Bailey to Stamps.

    Structure:

    The first few chapters of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is principally concerned with Maya and Bailey’s arrival in Stamps and their lives there. Because the book is solely from Maya’s point-of-view, we get only her perspective on the events of the book.
