I'll Get There. It Better Be Worth the Trip. Analysis

I'll Get There. It Better Be Worth the Trip is a fictional novel written by American author John Donovan, and was first published by Harper & Row in 1969. The book was reprinted in reprinted by Dell in 1973 and reissued by Flux on 8 September 2010.

The book follows the coming-of-age story the young 13-year-old teenager, Davy Ross, as he comes to live in New York City with his mother. Though mostly a loner, he seeks solace in his friendship with another boy, Douglas Altschuler. However, their relationship soon changes to a romantic one, leaving Davy confused about his feelings and of his sexuality.

The book was extremely well received, with Time magazine calling it “Sophisticated ... remarkably touching" and the New York Times stating that "This book ... should be available wherever young people read."
