A Very Short Story
While wounded, the narrator fell for an Italian nurse called Luz. She worked the night shift for three months to be with him and he repaid her by taking the temperature of patients while she slept.
Eventually, he recovered and was sent back to the front. He never received the letters she wrote him, but they reunited after the war. He went to New York to find a job, but Luz would not come until later, which made him angry.
