    What is an “active-passive” approach to survival? When and why is it crucial?

    An active-passive approach is important in the case of long-term survival for psychological reasons. Events can be gradual and painful and, after a certain point, somewhat out of the survivors’ control. The strategy of this approach is seeing passivity as a deliberate action and finding strength in that. By the end of Chase’s journey, it was the only thing he and his men could do.
