In the Midst of Winter Summary

Evelyn Ortega, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, gets into a car accident with Richard Bowmaster. He notices that she seems unusually frightened, so he advises Evelyn to contact him for insurance purposes. Later that evening, Evelyn visits Richard's house and confesses that the car belongs to her employer and that, due to her undocumented status, the accident could lead to her arrest. This revelation stirs something in Richard, who has been emotionally distant since his wife left him after the death of their son, Pablo.

Although Richard appeared unemotional at the time, he was deeply heartbroken. Since then, he has lived alone, but Evelyn's vulnerability awakens his desire to help someone again. Richard turns to his colleague and tenant, Lucía Maraz, for help. She's the same age as Richard and works as a lecturer. As they engage in a deep conversation and share their tragic stories from the past, Evelyn reveals that there is a dead body hidden inside the car.

Richard and Lucía decide to work together to protect Evelyn from this complex situation without involving the police and to uncover the truth behind the murder of the unknown victim. Evelyn, once helpless and alone in the big city, finally finds herself surrounded by people who care about her.
