John Smith
John Smith was born in a Native American reservation, to a young fourteen-year-old girl. He was then adopted by a white family that loved him dearly and decided to call him John Smith. He was totally cut of from all his roots from the Native American community, which bothered him more and more as he grew up. He felt ugly and assimilated from both his Native American culture and the white culture, as he wasn’t fully any of them.
Jack Wilson
Jack Wilson is a Native American activist, who is white, though he believes he has is a Native American descendant. He is an author and writes books about how Native Americans are mistreated, and he is the author of “Indian Killer”, which is the book within the book all written by Sherman Alexie.
Marie Polatkin
Marie Polatkin is the main love interest in the book. John Smith likes her, as he is a Native American woman that fights for Native American rights. She strongly dislikes Jack Wilson, which leads John Smith to killing him. Marie is morally strong and cares for the people around her.
