Doc
Doc is a private investigator who is approached by his ex-girlfriend Shasta who convinces him to take a case for her. He is a hippie stoner who drops acid and is unsure of whether he is in reality or experiencing a hallucination moment to moment.
Shasta Fay
Shasta Fay is the catalyst for Doc's trip-filled journey of private investigation throughout the film. She is Doc's former girlfriend who has gotten involved with Mickey Wolfmann and a group of heroine dealers. She's in trouble and has reached out to Doc for help.
Lt. Det. Christian F. "Bigfoot" Bjornsen
Bigfoot is a Lt. Det. with the Los Angeles Police Department. He is also a movie extra, and a man who has been betrayed by his partner. He is the antithesis to Doc's hippy stoner p.i. as he, on the outside is the model of 1950s American man, modeled after John Wayne.
Coy
Coy is the mystery man of the film. He is married to Hope who he has a daughter with but is said to be dead. He reappears during Doc's investigation and it turns out he has been hired to infiltrate any political groups after the Republican Party.
Deputy D.A. Penny Kimball
Kimball is a woman that Doc turns to in order to get information, and they also are intimate. She helps Doc to access sealed documents which allow him to break his case open.
Mickey Woflmann
Mickey is the reason Doc begins his investigation. He is the poster boy for the underground Nazi movement, a real estate mogul who has gone missing and whom Doc is seeking to find.
