Erendira

Erendira is a character previously mentioned in one of Marquez's most famous novels, One Hundred Years Of Solitude. She is a young prostitute who lives in a village in Latin America with her Grandmother. Throughout the novel she as seen as a follower as she blindly goes along with anything her grandmother demands. Erendira is an extremely unlucky character and is constantly manipulated and controlled by the supporting characters in the novel. At the end of the novel, she seems to break out of her shell and escape the life she has been forced into, revealing her strength.

Erendira's Grandmother

Erendira's Grandmother remains unnamed throughout the novel. She is the main manipulator in the story as she consistently whores her granddaughter out to random men in the village. She is an obese women covered in tattoos with a large inheritance from her husband. She is a mean spirited and greedy woman who only uses her granddaughter for her own personal gain.

Ulises

Ulises is a man that waits in line outside Erendira's tent in order to have sex with her, but gets turned away by her grandmother for not being good enough. He later sneaks into the tent and falls in love with Erendira. His father owns a plantation of oranges, one that helps him convince Erendira to run away with him, away from the men who kidnapped her. This is an event that showcases his love for her. He would do anything for the woman he loves and is at her beck and call through everything.
