Words (“Words”)
Words that are enunciated by “sunlight, leaves and shadows” are the subjects in the poem “Words”. The words are exceptional due to their wholesomeness. Furthermore, the words empower the universe to articulate itself without inescapably being dependent on the words that are pronounced by human beings.
The Speaker (“Summer Storm”)
The speaker ruminates about a moment that transpired during a summer wedding that transpired twenty years ago. During the wedding, the speaker and the unidentified addressee had an intimate moment whereby the held arms are whispered to each other. The intimate instant was interjected when the hostess called the addressee’s name. The speaker has not erased the incident from his/her mind.
The Speaker (“The Lost Garden”)
Dana Gioia makes use of the voice “we” in the poem “Lost Gardens”. The voice ‘we’ give emphasis to the universality of after-summer happenings . All people are bereaved of the stunning gardens once the summer is concluded.
