Judith
Judith is the protagonist in this poem and is depicted as a brave woman striving to protect her people. She is portrayed as being extremely level headed and grounded as well as having a good spirit, courage and extremely strong convictions. She is said to be doing God's will as a "holy woman."
Holofernes
Holofernes was an Assyrian general and king. He was a grotesque drunk. His people were the ones trying to attack Judith's people. He attempts to seduce Judith which shows his character as a lowly drunk. His actions lead him to be beheaded.
