Bhatta comes up with a plan to marry Waterfall Venkamma’s daughter to Advocate Seenappa. Why is this plan so brilliant?

Waterfall Venkamma is essentially Kanthapura’s village gossip. She is also a spiteful, superficial woman. Having her on Bhatta’s side has a lot of benefits, especially considering that Bhatta wants to take Moorthy’s Congress down. Feeling like Bhatta is a trusted friend, she will be easily manipulated by him, even though he only set her daughter up for his own gain, not caring about her at all. He can feed her whatever ideas and lies he wants (about Moorthy, about the Congress, about Gandhian philosophy) knowing she’ll spread them around the town.
