Ladders (“Love for a Hand”)

The ladders in “Love for a Hand” are equated to “reflected light”. The ladders are figurative of the flash memories that induce the two sleepers’ dreams. The flash memories reproduce in the sleepers’ unconsciousness in the equivalent way as the ‘reflected light’.

‘Paths of Long ago’ (“Love for a Hand”)

The paths signify bygone memories that are discernible when the sleepers are slumbering. Pacing through the paths is comparable to going through again the past (regression) by way of the dreams.

The cross-tree (“The Cross-Tree”)

The cross-tree builds the imagery of Jesus’ crucifixion cross. The crosstree is symbolic of the encumbrances that people reveal to the ‘doctors’ , ‘soldiers’, ‘chaplains’ and ‘fathers’ with the anticipation that they will aid them get rid of the afflictions. People are obliged to endure some burdens independently though.

The ‘half-lit cage of science’ ( “Dialectic and Criticism”)

The ‘half-lit cage of science’ characterizes the abstruseness is science which obfuscates the poems that are stimulated by science. The scientific indistinctness results in slanted poems that may turn out to be vague for the readers.
