Empowerment

The documentary details heroic acts of four women as they battle for congressional seats in their districts. At a time when not many inexperienced politicians are willing to take that road, we find these four women driven to win and achieve the impossible. Representative Alexandria Cortez, the only one of the four to win the election, is a true champion for women empowerment. She is young and inexperienced, but she is determined to learn and be better for the people of her district. Representative Alexandria beat Joe Crowley who had been in office since 1999. It was such a huge accomplishment that no one expected it to be done by a new face in American politics.

Politics and Power

In the heart of this documentary and the election itself, power sits in the middle. These four brave women took up this responsibility to have power so that they can bring change to their communities. Corbin Trent from the Justice Democrats and Brand New Congress which supported inexperienced politicians as Alexandria speaks against lobbyists and special interest groups. He speaks out against the current congress which is made up of 80% men and most of them consist of millionaires and lawyers. They support bringing power back to the common people, those without a voice. They seek to remove the corrupt influence of money in politics. As an unknown woman of color, Representative Alexandria represents the new shift in American politics that doesn’t always support the established notions of power and service. She is part of a greater uprising in the US political landscape that seeks to break the old establishment that has defined American politics for generations.
