    "The Book Was Better"

    Objective:

    Students will watch and respond to a film adaptation of the novel.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.9

    Structure:

    As a seminal work of Japanese literature, Kokoro has been adapted several times to stage and screen. Two films have been made: one in 1955, and another in 1973. It has also been adapted into a two-episode anime series, a television special, and two manga.

    For this activity, students will split into groups. Each group will pick a different adaptation of Kokoro to watch/read. As they do so, they should take notes on the following questions:
