Michael Tolliver

Recovering from his passionate youth, Michael is now 40-years-old. HIV has taken its toll not only on his body but also his relationships. Everywhere he looks, it seems, Michael is reminded that he's old. The life that was so thoroughly his to seize has now changed with time. In fact, many of his friends have already died, causing him to ponder the meaning of his life. Michael tries to balance the needs of his family -- namely his aging mother -- and his friends, who also are suffering.

Anna Madrigal

She used to be Michael's landlady. She was a cool cat back in the day, and now she's struggling. She should not be living on her own any more, a fact which becomes increasingly apparent to Michale. In the end, she is the one he chooses to look after, demonstrating honor and loyalty after her care for him in his somewhat reckless youth.

Brian Hawkins

Michael's friend Brian is still hanging around. His daughter is grown, but he still uses her to see his ex-wife, Mary Ann.

Shawna Hawkins

Shawna has grown up. She is pursuing writing now and has turned out to be pansexual and more than accepting of her dad.

Irwin

Irwin is Michael's brother. He's had it out for his brother for some time, but now with their mother's illness his disagreements are more pronounced. He doesn't understand why Michael stays in San Francisco.

Michael's Mom

She's getting pretty old when she learns that she's dying. Of course everyone is dying, but she knows approximately how quickly and is disturbed. She lives alone in Florida, so she reaches out to the kids to try and make amends and get them to come visit her soon.

Jake Greenleaf

Jake works with Michael and Ben. He's a pretty chill guy, a bit colorful at times. He's trans and proud of it, representing how far the culture in San Francisco has come since the 80s.
