Objective:
Students will understand characteristics of Victorian literature.

Structure:
George Eliot is described as a Victorian novelist. Knowing Middlemarch is a Victorian work, have students brainstorm what they think Victorian literature is. You can keep track of this as a class on chart paper or a list on a whiteboard.
