Moon Over Manifest is children’s novel based on real historical events that happened in The United States. It is the first book written by Clare Vanderpool and was published on May 2, 1995. The story centers around a young girl named Abilene, and her experiences and encounters in the fictional city of Frontenac in Kansas, during the Great Depression. Abilene looks to discover the city's history, together with her two friends: Lettie and Ruthanne.

The book won the award of the 2011 Newbery Medal for excellence in children’s literature, was named a Kansas Notable Book and was awarded the Spur Award best Juvenile fiction. It has an average rating of 4.02, out of 5 stars on Goodreads (as of 9/13/2018).

Moon Over Manifest has been described as a “richly detailed, splendidly written” by Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly commented that it was a “memorable coming of-age story”. It has also received a lot of positive reviews from other sources, such as School Library journey who stated that the book was a "thoroughly enjoyable, unique page-turner, (Moon Over Manifest) is a definite winner".
