Mr. Harrigan's Phone Background

Mr. Harrigan's Phone Background

Mr. Harrigan's Phone is a short story by American horror writer Stephen King. It first appeared in a collection of King's previously unpublished work titled If It Bleeds. The collection was published on April 28th, 2020.

King considers the works within this collection to be part of the supernatural genre, rather than classifying them as horror stories. The story revolves around a man named Craig who is given a winning lottery ticket by his employer, Mr. Harrigan. Craig gifts Mr. Harrigan a cell; phone bought from part of his winnings, but the cell phone seems to take on a sinister life of its own when it exacts revenge upon those who have harmed others in their lifetimes.

The collection of novellas received universally enthusiastic praise, and three out of the four have been adapted for the big screen. Mr. Harrigan's Phone film rights were acquired by Netflix in 2020 with Donald Sutherland taking on the role of Mr. Harrigan.
