Mrs Faust is a poem about how the human desire to become rich and well-known turns into a disease that destroys a person. The poem begins with the relationship between Faust and his wife. This very rich and influential couple prioritizes material things and indulges their every whim. Faust and his wife are flourishing.
An abundant life begins to change the main character with time. Despite the fact that Faust achieves all goals, concludes contracts with a firmly established business and fulfils his potential in politics, he slowly loses his mind. Due to Faust’s constant betrayal and indifference to his wife, Mrs. Faust begins to fully engage herself. She practices yoga, visits various countries, slightly changes her appearance and becomes spiritually rich. Everything is exactly the opposite with Faust – he completely loses his mind and lives in the unreal world.
In the final part of the poem, Mrs. Faust finds out that her husband makes a pact with Mephistopheles, the Devil’s messenger. Mephistopheles comes to Faust to take his soul, since the soul is the price for all the luxury and wealth in his life. At this moment, Mrs. Faust hears the hissing of the serpent, feels evil in the air and sees the hands of the Devil grab her husband and drag him straight to hell. From that moment on, Mrs. Faust keeps her husband’s secret – this smart, cunning, heartless bastard never had a soul to sell it.
