Adaptation (Day 1)

Collaborative Writing

Objective:

Students will gain a deeper understanding of Cather's novel by translating it into a different medium

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.3; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.5; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.3; CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.5

Structure:

Divide students into small groups (no more than 5 students per group, but ideally two or three). Each group should discuss and take notes on one thread of the novel that is particularly compelling to them. It may be a scene that appears in the book, a relationship, or an ongoing theme. What do they find compelling about that particular aspect of the novel?...
