After spending time in exile, Black has returned to Turkey. His uncle, Enishte, has summoned him to discuss working on a secret novel. Black fell in love with Shekure, Enishte’s daughter, before going to exile. Enishte wants Black to solve the murder of Elegant. Elegant was murdered because he threatened to expose the details of the provocative book. Black is happy to return home after twelve years. He longs to meet Shekure. Shekure is married, but her husband has been missing for years. When Black meets Enishte in house, Shekure is enthralled. Shekure is living with her father because his brother in law, Hasan, tried to rape her.
Meanwhile, Black starts the investigation. He meets Olive, Stork, and Butterfly, the other three miniaturists suspected of murder. The relationship between Black and Shekure becomes intense. One day, while the two are enjoying their day out, the murderer visits Enishte and kills him. Shekure bumps into her father’s dead body and is worried by the turn of events. Soon after, she is married to Black. Black is tasked to investigate the killers of Enishte and Elegant. He believes that the two were killed by the same individual.
The investigation of the two murders continues. The killer of both Enishte and Elegant is easily identified through horse drawing competition. Elegant’s body had horse illustration. After an intense investigation, Black discovers that Olive drew the illustration on Elegant’s body. Eventually, people find out that Olive killed the two. The discovery makes him flee. However, Hasan catches up with him and kills him accusing him of stealing his dagger. Consequently, Hasan flees from the town for fear of being convicted.
