Nappily Ever After follows the life of picture-prefect Violet. She has a perfect life, as the prefect girlfriend of Clint. Her hair is perfectly straight and composed, and she wakes up early to make it look even better before her boyfriend wakes up. Her whole family try to keep up their view of perfection, and too keep the vision up, she hopes Clint proposes on her birthday. To prepare, she goes to the salon to get her hair done. This does not work out though, as she loses her hair when the salon uses perming cream instead of conditioner on her hair. She curses at a girl that has an afro in her anger.
Violet has to wear a weave to cover her damaged hair. When the day of her birthday came, Clint doesn’t propose. This turns into a big fight and they break up. Violet is overcome with strong feelings, and decides to try out blonde hair. She goes to try to rekindle her relationship with Clint, but finds him with a new woman. Devastated, she shaves her head and goes to look for a natural hair salon.
She quickly grows to love her new hair and learns that she is beautiful. She begins dating the owner of the hair salon and befriends his daughter. When Clint realizes that Violet is confident and fun, he wants her back, but Violet declines. Instead, she quits her job and starts her new life with her natural hair.
