Douglass, Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass

It is an autobiography of the author. He is obviously very literate and able to achieve goals seemingly incomprehensible for a slave. He wanted to tell his story. Perhaps as a cautionary tale for future generations or perhaps a record and personal catharsis.
