Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
Is Fredericks relationship with his mother typical if other slave children
Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Yes, like most slave children, Douglass was separated from his mother while an infant. He only saw her a handful of times during his life. Frederick's mother occassionally walked for miles just to have a few hours with him, but there was no bond between them. It was Douglass' belief that this was done to destroy the natural affection between a mother and child.
