Is the "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" a primary source? What evidence?

An autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, would be considered a primary source. Douglass is speaking about his own experiences in his own time.... he lived them. Thus, his narrative is defined as an original source of information.
