Frederick Douglass was a complete gentleman, but yes, his narrative is a bitter indictment of slavery. In the narrative, Douglass chronicles his experiences.... the nightmares he lived before finally escaping and attaining freedom from the horrors of slavery. I don't think anyone could have experienced those same events..... the bondage, the cruelty, the impossibility of autonomy.... without bitterness.... what do you think?
