What were the living and eating conditions like for young Fedrick on Colonel Lloyd's plantation?

Young Frederick and the other slave children lived in less than desirable circumstances. Their clothing consisted of breeches, linen shirts, and no other covering.... winter of summer. The children also found themselves consistently fighting for food and were fed nothing more than "mush".
