Nick and Charlie Summary

Nick and Charlie, two students at a high school, have always been what people see as an ideal couple. No one could ever imagine the two not as a couple and not with each other. Nick’s impending departure to a school where he could get his undergraduate degree at threatens their relationship, and people across town wonder if their relationship with persevere.

Some people think it is foolish to question if Nick and Charlie’s relationship will survive because of how close and seemingly inseparable the two are. Others think that distance and time apart naturally breaks up a relationship. But as the days tick by and Nick’s departure grows closer, both Nick and Charlie start to doubt that their love is strong enough to survive the distance and time apart.

The prospect of being apart from one another is daunting for both Nick and Charlie, who realize who challenging it will be to keep their relationship going. They question whether their love is strong enough to withstand the distance, or if they are merely delaying the inevitable choice of their having to break up. They think that a common phrase, that lovely rarely stands the test of time and distance, could be true.

As the date of Nick’s departure grows closer, Nick and Charlie struggle with their emotions and come to realize that love alone may not be enough to overcome the distance. They know that they have to make a decision sooner rather than later about their relationship.

Ultimately, the fate of Nick and Charlie's relationship rests on their ability to navigate the ups and downs of a long-distance relationship. Only time will tell if they are able to stay together. But one thing is for certain: the relationship that Nick and Charlie forged will always be something that both of them remember, even though they ultimately decide to break up with each.
