Normal People was published in 2018 and is Irish author, Sally Rooney's, second novel. The story is set in contemporary Ireland and follows the story of Marianne and Connell during their last year of high school and over the course of their time at Trinity College. While from the same small town in Ireland, Marianne and Connell operate in two totally different social spheres and yet are constantly drawn back to one another. The novel offers commentary on "normality", socioeconomic class relations, and complex relationships between family, partners, and friends.
